An entertaining and fast paced read, ideal to take to the beach or on the plane. Two girls, Sam in the present day and Jess in 1914 are somehow connected. Sam slips between the two eras - not a new plot device by any means but managed well in this short novel. The characters are deftly drawn and their two very different lives are well described. All the strands of the story are neatly and satisfyingly knitted together at the end of the book. However, there are some irritating factual errors that should not have been allowed to remain after editing. For instance, a baby born at 23 weeks gestation is described as being so very premature that it has been born without ears - these will apparently develop later- this is just rubbish! But that's just the pedant in me!
